streaming radio

i know streaming via .pls files was in the pipeline, did this work out?
i have been trying to sort out the stream for my radio station, and had it playing nicely in my app via an .mp3 stream, but i have needed to change my streaming method, and now can only stream to my app via .pls files.
i cant see .pls on the list of files that can be used yet, so is it going to be much longer?
