Last chance to build your apps with Andromo 4...

Heads up. Andromo 5 will be rolling out in the next few days.

Further to the notice we gave several weeks ago: If you want to build a final version of your app using the current look and feel of Andromo 4, you now only have 24 hours left to do so.

Once Andromo 5 is released, your apps will take on a new and greatly improved material design look, but will of course require you to adjust graphic assets and project settings to ensure your app looks just the way you want. Since things will look so different, you will of course also want to try out your apps and verify the results before updating in Google Play.

FYI- When we start to roll out Andromo 5, there will be a downtime of approximately 18 hours. Huge amount of data to migrate to the new system...

    As Colin said, once Andromo 5 is live, you will NOT be able to build your apps with the old look and feel again.

    The new look and feel is so much better! But in order to make it possible, we had to abandon some old things that just didn't make sense in a modern app, so there will be some things that will look very different. A couple examples FYI:

    • The old dashboard styles are gone -- and so are the old confusing dashboard settings. Instead, you have 40+ modern variations to choose from, all designed to fit into a modern look and feel.

      However, only modern designs are supported -- there is currently no way to achieve the old "Classic" look with icons and text underneath. (Although you might be able to achieve something somewhat similar using the new grid item styles.)

      The new item styles are nicer than anything you could do before, and the new settings are simpler and give you even more control over the look of your app. (And they aren't just for the dashboard, either!)

    • Having a background image on a dashboard or audio activity is not currently supported; instead, all activities support a "feature" image which is more in keeping with material design.

    Remember, once you build an Andromo app, the app never expires, so if you're happy with the old look and feel of your app, keep your old APK files in a safe place!

    Once we go live, you will never be able to build or update an app with the old-fashioned Andromo 4.0 features and appearance, ever again. So plan accordingly!

    For the Dashboard, there are ~45 different styles (so far). Each one of them is about a million times prettier than any of the Andromo v4 choices:

  • AppsApps
    For all Andromo users, I advise that you change your screenshots if you update an existing app with the v5 version. Some stores would complain to you if the app content looks really different from the screenshots.

    I am excited and scared at the same time. With more than 500 apps, if we really need much graphical work I am looking at a very long summer ahead. But it is for the best!

    Will it be possible with multiple dashboards and possible for the user to pick some activities as favorites which will then show up on the main page?

    @anteos - yes, definitely you will want to update your screenshots. Showing off how beautiful the new version of your app(s) are will definitely benefit your downloads.
