Importance of Reviews and ratings in google

Hi Guys,

As we all know that Reviews and ratings are something which improve the ranking of your app on google play. many developers talk about review exchange , some talk about paid reviews , few take up other techniques . I really wanted to know which way to go. Being an Indie Developer , and such a cut throat competition it is really difficult to understand the marketing ways. I want to guys to help me and guide me on the same.

Hey Anna,

focus on providing a really good app title and description, make a nice app icon, promote on on social media channels etc. There is no single way. You can also try buying a few reviews, but be careful with those. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see a lot of correlation between ranking/ratings.

@anna_07: If one buys reviews from a trusted provider (but there is no sure way of knowing if they really use different IP's etc.), there should be no problems.

Be careful buying reviews as I believe it to be against the Google Play Terms of Service: http://developer.android.com/distribute/googleplay/policies/spam.html#ratings

@anna_07 The terms are Google's so it's up to them. However, I would err on the side of caution and not recommend them.
